Yoga is a Work-In

You may have heard this: yoga is not a workout, it is a work-in. But what does that mean?

In yoga the goal is to bring awareness to, and to connect with yourself. To be aware of what you’re feeling. To “go inside.”

What you’re feeling physically, what you’re feeling emotionally, the physical sensations in your body, the emotions that are coming up for you. The way that your breath feels. the way that it moves through your body. Whether it’s deep or shallow, whether it feels restricted or free to move. The quality of your breath.

If we can tune in to ourselves. If we can connect with our physical sensations, with our emotions and with the quality of our breath, we can be more in control of those aspects of ourselves. This control gives us the ability to bounce back more easily from stresses, and we can become more resilient.

The power of yoga is in its ability to help us tune in to ourselves, to build our resiliency so that the daily stresses of life are more manageable for us. We can come to our mat or our seat anytime we need to be in our body physically, to be in our breath and to focus on just this moment and allow the stresses to melt away, even if it’s only for two minutes.

Yoga gives us tools for life.
